1 Peter 4:10, “As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”
There are so many things that come to mind when I think of being a born again,Holy Ghost filled Child of God. But lately it seems He has laid upon my heart, more than all else, serving. Servanthood. What does it mean? Can we be His if we do not have this spirit and heart; this desire to serve, to be the last so as to be first…. ?
I have prayed a lot lately. And for so many different things. I pray for a true, Godly friend; a mentor perhaps. I pray for peace; for health and for protection for my family and so many others. Yet prayer cannot be all. Can I serve one and another? Can I put them before my self and my needs even?
He has blessed me with salvation; a new life in Him. Am I using this gift appropriately? AM I sharing the gifts He has given – the mercy and the grace; the truth that He has opened my heart and my mind, my eyes and my ears to? What have I done with these gifts? If I am not serving others, where is that spirit? And where is that love?
I wonder, if we all, as His chosen, called out people, if we all stepped outside of ourselves what could we do for His kingdom? I am guilty – I know that. I also hear His words clearly; we cannot be His saved and sanctified children if we are not following His commands to serve one another. Without a servant’s spirit; without the heart we are nothing.
“[Christ-followers] are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.” ~Matthew 5.13
How salty are you? Have we lost our flavor? If we have, we must consider, we must go to Him and repent. Pray for Him to show us the need; for Him to root out whatever may be in the way of us fulfilling His will for His bride. If we dot show Christ in all we do; if we do not show the love and the desire to serve others – Consider who we are causing to flee the church; who we are leading astray – are we as we share the gospel, sharing a false truth?
“For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake” (2 Corinthians 4:5 ).
Contemplate – in our daily routine – what part of it shows Christ in us?What in our day shows us to be hypocrites; preaching something that we are not living?
It has been rightly stated, “Rank is given you to enable you to better serve those above and below you. It is not given for you to practice your idiosyncrasies” (General Bruce C. Clarke, USA, Ret).
Those who desire to be great in God’s kingdom must be the servant of all (Matthew 20:26 ).
When Jesus washed the disciples’ feet, He told them “I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done unto you” (John 13:15). As His followers, we are to emulate Him, serving one another in lowliness of heart and mind, seeking to build one another up in humility and love. The Lord promises, we will be greatly blessed (John 13:17) when we do this.
So tell me;what are you praying for today? And how are you cultivating the spirit and heart of Christ, as a servant to others, in your life.
Great post! Thank you so much for linking up with Woman to Woman’s SERVE link up! God bless!
I am so excited about this; looking forward to going a bit deeper with Him and with ya’ll too – A blessings to be able to serve!
In a ME ME world this is a great reminder. so many people (Christians included) are only concerned with what they get out of doing something. If there isn’t anything in it for them they would rather stay in their recliner. I am a pastors wife and I know how hard it is to motivate Christians into service. I am thankfu (there’s that word again!) for having the Word of God to be able to dig in and know Him better and what he would have us to be. It’s all right there, in black and white, and some times red… We should be serving our widows and orphans (the homeless, the less fortunate).
God Bless you for the message you are sharing with a lost world.
