The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him. Genesis 2:18
I was created to be a Help Meet to my husband Shane. And you were created for yours. Imagine that …powerful stuff right?
To know that God knew from the beginning; but what does it mean and how can I be the Help Meet I was created to be?
We must know that there is no greater role for a woman in this world than being at her husband’s side.
Help, according to Strong’s Concordance: prime root: to surround, ie, protect or aid: help, succour; Gesenius adds that the primary idea lies in girding, surrounding, hence defending.
Meet in Hebrew ( kenegdo) corresponding to, counterpart to, equal to matching.
It’s interesting to note that the word ezer is used twice in the Old Testament to refer to the female and 14 times to refer to God. For example, in the Psalms when David says, “The Lord is my Helper,” he uses the word ezer.”
Amazing right? When we consider the role He has for each of us, there is so much more to it than imaginable. When it says we are to submit to our husbands, it is not belittling or condescending. It speaks of power; of the ability and responsibility to protect and keep the home and the family. It speaks of a spiritual need that we are to fill.
King James Version (KJV)
22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
There is a purpose He has, a calling, for wives to be at home. Caring for and protecting, keeping and maintaining the home. Ho can the home be kept and the Lord honoured at home, if no one is there to keep it so?
1 Timothy 5:14g
14 I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.
I heard Him speak this to me so very clearly almost 4 years ao when our second son was born. His words rang in my ears. I had to quit my job, I had to bring my children home that I could train them, teach them and guide them in His way. And while there are days that I cannot deny I would rather be at an office, I know that this is a blessing and that there are many blessings to come upon my home and family for all that I do. The Lord sees and He hears our cries.
I pray that daily He shall increase my ability to serve my family; that He shall turn and keep my heart on the family that He has blessed me with. May we grow and learn together how to be the Help Meet that He calls us to be; bringing glory and honour to our Lord!
