If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! Matthew 7:11
My son has an attitude today. He is a busy guy – a negotitor – he is always looking for a short cut when it comes to his work. Granted many times his short cut still works but – its about obedience right now. And that does not come easy.
We talked today about this verse when he broke down because he was not allowed to play a video game. It was a good time to talk about the benefits of hard work – of working for the Lord. I shared with him my daily struggles – how hard it is and how little I want to clean those dishes, do another load of laundry or scrub one more floor.
His question made sense “Why do it then?” And so we shared – God blesses us with those meals that we will not go hungry and those clothes that we will be warm. There are messes in the home that show our love and joy; these messes hep us to see how you are learning; what you are learning. Yet we still must cleanad care for those things because He has blessed us with them.
My son is making a list right now of the gifts he has been blessed with. It’s a hard thing to understand sometimes; especially when it seems things are not going as we have planned. Or that the direction we wanted to take and that which He is sending us in, are total opposites.
This is when we need to exercise that faith; when we need to remember and count those blessings great and small. The air we breath. Each day we awake. The seconds and minutes as they go by. There is much to be grateful for if we just stop and look about.
Let us remember how great is our God and praise Him in all seasons 🙂
