here we are. branson missouri. bible quiz nationals competition. we made it.
while my husband and the boys are at the orientation and getting the matrix so we know when and who we play” I am enjoying some reading and blogging time with my sweet little girl sleeping at my side. in awe at how big she is; how fast the time has gone by.
and i am reflecting. i open my inbox – sort through all the junk (need to unsubscribe for many things) and the first thing I open says: Grace for the Undeserving. If there one thing I struggle with, it is showing grace to those who are “undeserving”.
My mother in law comes to mind. The dark cloud that seems to go with her wherever she goes. The anger and pain she constantly has to express towards everyone and everything. How do you love someone who is just plain unloveable? Someone who is disrespectful; rude and self – centered? (and does not even see it in the? how can we rebuke, help our brothers and sisters in Christ, when they cannot see…?)
Aren’t we all? Unloveable? Undeserving? At least – if we are honest about it. Not one of us deserves what He has blessed us with so…. (Ephesians 1:7-8)
My husband and I both struggle with, not who she is, but how she is And I know we all run into others who can make it a struggle to show Christ in us. I can be a handful I know 🙂
SO what are to do?
Phillippians 2:1-15 says:
2 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,
2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:
15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
We are to be of like mind – not like their mind – like His mind. I heard a sermon (I cannot remember who preached though) where he said that too many people contemplate “What would Jesus do?” and that is where we already have wrong thinking – If we are thinking right, we know that Christ is IN us and therefore is working in and around us today. So it is not what would He do but what can He do? What will you do in His name? We have to think like Him. No matter what is broken, no matter how loud, how chaotic it gets – in that storm what shall He do? We should “bless those that curse you and pray for those who despitefully use you.” (Luke 6:28-29) We should not return evil for evil (Romans 12:17), but should do unto others as they would do unto you.
Be a blessing. Be an example. Be the light.
It’s so easy to write. So simple to say. Much harder to do. I know. I tend to complicate things. Consider. Compare.
Sometimes things are just more…..sometimes we cannot. some times we just have to say NO MORE.
And then? When we just have to walk away ~ turn it over to God and pray for them. For their mind and their heart – because the truth is there are many who love His word; they love His word and they read it and pray always (just ask them haha) But there is a difference.
…know them by their fruits…”
Are we living it? Are we seeking to become His? Or are we still stuck in wrong thinking? We are no longer our own …. There is a difference…..Let us think on these things…
We are all undeserving…..being undeserving does not mean we should not show and be shown love and grace. It means we should show it even more knowing that we are shown it. Daily. By the minute. By the hour. It also means that when we are called to a higher level of action, of thought, of word, of deed – We are His not our own. As is done to us, is done to Him. period.
Let us show His face in all we do.
