“The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing” (Zephaniah 3:17)
Ever struggle with this one? I would be lying if I said I didn’t. There are some days I just feel so all alone; so unloved and unworthy. Times I think to myself that surely there was a mix up in that whole “calling and choosing” thing He did.
In fact there were some ladies visiting with me yesterday, and we were talking about just that. We need to have a strong identity in Christ. Otherwise, without that relationship, without that foundation, how do we really feel and know we are loved? I mean we cannot love without that relationship; not deeply anyway.
SO who are we in Christ? I was washed in the waters of baptism; I was raised up again, ale to be a new creation in Christ. I was filled with His Spirit, spoke (still do) in tongues, as the Spirit gives utterance. Praying in the Spirit always. But what does that make me?
It makes me His child; adopted into His family. He chose me. Its not just anyone who shows up and gets baptised and filled with His Spirit, speaking in tongues. It is not just anyone who can walk the walk that He did. It is for those who are called and chosen according to His will. Because this is all done by God, we are merely a vessel. And that is not a bad thing.
It is amazing to see new people when they come in to the faith. In to a Bible Study even. They have this dim vision; there is so much they cannot see. But as they come, again and again, with a willing and eager heart….As they give more and more of themselves away….He moves, He reveals. So many miraculous and amazing things. SO any simple and “obvious” things. He reveals. In His time. As we seek Him.
We are SO loved! God is SO good. ALL the time. Right? He calls us His beloved.
God’s unfailing love for us is an objective fact affirmed over and over in the Scriptures. It is true whether we believe it or not. Our doubts do not destroy God’s love, nor does our faith create it. It originates in the very nature of God, who is love, and it flows to us through our union with His beloved Son. ~ Jerry Bridges
Isn’t that the most powerful thing you have ever read? Outside of His own word of course? Think about it. We don’t have to believe it. But He loves us.It is one thing that just is. As God is – never changing, the same yesterday and today and tomorrow. God loves you. He loves me. He loves my son who spins and claps and jumps all over, all the time. He loves my daughter who sings songs to Him all day about the house, and out shopping. He loves that crazy strange neighbor who we try to avoid when we go outside. And He loves that woman who is always yelling and drinking and cussing and fighting. He loves ALL of us.
It’s so very deep. And it gets so much deeper. When we respond; when we take His love and accept it and act upon it and allow it to change us more and more into His image. His love, in us, does great things for us – through us – around us – for His glory!
We cannot do the will of God until we know and experience the love of God.And this is where it is really easy – we need to seek Him, as a child. Seek Him in humility, innocence, dependence, faith, trusting Him. As only a child can. So must we be.
NO matter the sins that have come before us. No matter our inadequacies or imperfections. They are no matter. Let us come before Him in fear and love, in repentance; let us know that He died for us while we were still sinners. All of these mistakes and stumblings; our sinful thoughts and words and actions – they do not define us. But He does. He can.Its His love that cleanses us in the watery grave of baptism; it is His great and amazing love that makes us whiter than snow. Of course we do not deserve any thing but is that not the most beautiful part of love? Even when my son disobeys; tells a lie or acts out – there is still love for him. Just as His love is there for us.
When we trust Him. When we take faith and mix in some grace. Let us turn to Him; no matter how far we may feel from Him let us lift our hands in worship and in praise – calling on the name of the Lord. Our mighty and loving, gracious and merciful Jehovah. Stand strong, firm and sure in the love the Lord has for YOU; do not be moved Know that He is your peace, your strength, your comfort, your redeemer, your strong tower. He is YOUR God!
