If you have never heard of Veritas you sure are missing out! I was so very blessed to have the opportunity to review their CD that is coming out September 9th! Veritas is a contemporary classical vocal group composed of Jeff Anderson, James Berrian, Andrew Goodwin, Jordan Johnson, and Lucas Scott Lawrence. These gentlemen have an amazing, and powerful sound so very unique to much of what you hear today. This is operatic too (think Charlotte Church, Andrea Boccelli, Luciano Pavarotti ); they are joined by an amazing orchestra that you can hear and feel within their songs. It just moves you so!
“Veritas” is their debut full-length album made with the Fair Trade Services (Citizen Way, Sara Groves & The Afters). It is exciting and refreshing! Their unmistakable sound is so very refreshing, different, a welcome to addition to the contemporary classical christian genre. Their unique pop/opera style is a fusion of artistic creation, inspiring and so distinct. There is no doubt when you her their sound, you know it is Veritas. The members of this musical entourage have a wide and impressive amount of training and musical accomplishment, both classically and within the area of pop music.. While they sing old and new songs, you are sure to hear a sound unlike any heard before, a powerful and truly moving one at that.
This album contains so many of my favorites, all with a unique twist! There is MercyMe’s “I Can Only Imagine”; Matt Redman’s “10,000 Reasons”; Switchfoot’s “Dare You To Move”; Michael W. Smith’s “Agnus Dei,” (featuring “Mighty Fortress” and “All Hail The Power of Jesus’ Name”); an American Anthology of “America The Beautiful,” “God Bless America” and “Battle Hymn of the Republic” and John Legend’s “If You’re Out There,” originally recorded with the Agape Choir, as well as many other wonderful songs. My favorite personally was “The Lord’s Prayer” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone” which was a favorite of mine when I was a child. Brought up on musicals this was so very well done; bringing back a flood of memories too! (from the legendary Rogers & Hammerstein musical “Carousel”)
This is not just a bunch of songs; it is not fancy, no frills or bells and whistles; rather it is a simple but powerful collection of worship and praise songs for anyone seeking music that moves your heart and soul a bit closer to the Lord.
