MY oldest son is nine and loves to be in the kitchen! As we have been planning out our home education for the coming year I came across what I find to be an awesome, and totally free, cooking site for kids.
Here We Are Together is a cooking curriculum designed for children of all ages. It starts out with simple, small skills such as measuring, stirring and mixing, building confidence and having fun.
“Even very young children can, with some assistance, join in and learn all about the wonderful world of baking cakes, cooking food and preparing meals.”
We started out at week one (even though my oldest wanted to skip ahead) which was all about mixing. And such a simple but delicious recipe he made. All by himself. Okay, I helped locate stuff maybe. All you need to do this too is:
1 cup of Nutella or any other chocolate spread of your choice. We picked a dairy free variety and had great results.
1 cup of flour
We LOVE Nutella in this house, if I have never mentioned that before 🙂
First we had to preheat the oven, 180. Next we measured out 1 cup of flour and 1 cup of Nutella. Truthfully I think we added a bit more ~ oopsie ~ had to clean out an old jar and we don’t want to waste any of this good stuff! Then there was the egg; I had my son crack it into a small bowl first. Not too shabby either; only one piece of shell to get out of there. And then he was free to get mixing.
From there it was simple. A tablespoon of dough, rolled into a ball and pressed down a bit with a fork. Like those criss crosses on top myself :-)) Then you bake for about six minutes and *voila* Cool them down, grab a glass of milk and….yum yum yum
We didn’t get to enjoy these so much ourself but my son brought them to his Sunday school class, party, and they were a bit hit.
