As my oldest son gets older I am on the lookout for creative and fun ways to encourage him to spend more time in God’s Word. He is a very creative young man but he also really struggles when it comes to reading and writing. He loves to draw and he loves to learn and memorize the Word of God….This is all wonderful but I also want to ensure that he knows that these words mean more. That they are alive, that they are meant to teach and mold us. So I was more than excited to have the chance for us to review “The Plans I Have For You” Devotional and Journal.
These are great!!! I love how simple they are; a perfect way to spend time in God’s Word. And the Journal is simple, yet spacious enough to allow you to write or sketch your thoughts and prayers. My son loves all the “Doodle Spots” where he can sketch his ideas and visions of what he is reading. All of the gentle guides within the journal are fabulous ways to encourage our kids to really get thinking about God and His plans for us. Its also a beautiful way to help strengthen our kids faith and identity in Christ through exercises which encourage our kids to look into their talents and skills God blessed them with. (I do wish the scriptures were in KJV – my son often “fixed them” as he went along).
I definitely see this as being a great tool for any family to use with their children. Its so important for our children to know God, for themselves. They need to not just learn His word but also understand how precious it is. And how powerful it can be for their life. I love how eager and excited my little ones get when it comes to worship and praise and learning the Word of God. And I truly appreciate materials like this that can help to guide them and really show them how His word is for us!

About the Illustrator:
Vanessa Brantley-Newton is a self-taught illustrator, doll maker, and crafter. Her passion for children’s books began when she came across The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats as a child in the 1960s. Growing up in a musical family who love to sing, Vanessa’s illustrations are as fun and whimsical as a beautiful melody. Vanessa currently makes her nest in Charlotte, NC with her husband of 20 years, their daughter, and a very rambunctious cat named Stripes.
