This is Week 18 and we are on the letter “R”. I admit I struggled a bit on this one trying to decide what to write…and then it hit me (rather literally)
Rest. In the last few days, with a teething baby and then some very early rising children (for whatever reason) I have not been getting enough of this. And let’s face it, we need our rest.
” Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
No matter how hard it seems, we simply must find the time to get that rest. It’s a challenge, thats for sure but we cannot truly have that peace and joy of the Lord if we are not also enjoying times of rest.
In fact throughout the Bible God commands His people to rest..And if our great and all powerful, mighty and ever present God could rest, why can’t we?
Let us use this time of rest to grow our faith in the Lord. Let us put to side all our troubles, and just sit at His feet.
“Arise, O LORD, into thy rest; thou, and the ark of thy strength.”–Psalms 132:8
“This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it.”–Psalms 132:14
The Hebrew word sabot means “to rest or stop, to cease from work.” God created the heavens and the earth in six days, then God “rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made” (Genesis 2:2). This doesn’t mean that God was tired and needed a rest. Certainly we know that the Lord never tires, so if He ceased His work, and simply rested, we ought to do the same. He ceased from His labors. Let us cease from ours.
