Consider the Darkness

This time, every year, I feel it. Darkness about us – seeing the decorations people put up, the costumes and grotesque “decor” people buy masses of – I feel a difference in the air. Perhaps its because I was once so heavily entrenched in all of that – maybe is because those dark spirits that I feel about me – they were once my playthings. I thank God for delivering me from a place where this darkness (devils and witches and vampires and death) were things that I glorified and sought after. I praise the Lord that I can sense these things, that I am able to discern these things even when hidden, today.

How it pains me too, to remember those that I once spent so much time with – old friends that joined me in those dark arts; magic and fortune telling, seances and channelling – How dangerous these things are and how foolish we were (many still are!) It sickens me just as much now as it did then, to see how the world glorifies and glamorizes these things. It saddens me even more when I see those who profess to know Christ partaking in these things. We must be aware; we must choose WHO we serve TODAY. It doesn’t matter what it is called or how innocent those costumes are; it is all still of the devil. See what He says to the Israelites before they entered into the promised land;

Deuteronomy 12:29 (KJV) When Yahweh thy Elohim shall cut off the nations from before thee, where thou goest to possess them, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their land; 30 Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they are destroyed from before thee; and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise. 31 Thou shalt not do so to Yahweh thy Elohim: for every abomination to Yahweh, which he hateth, have they done to their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods. 32 Whatever thing I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add to it, nor diminish from it.

Compromise is how things have fallen so far from what the Word of God says 😦 Throughout history we have given – a little here and a little there- all in the name of “salvation for the lost”.  And as this happens we get further away from the truth.  Sadly few truly know what the Word of God really says for themselves anymore. Every new translation, every denomination – they change something that God has written to us – they add or they take away.  Yet we are told repeatedly, He does not change. His Word is FOREVER written; none are to add or take away any part of it.

I remember all too well my life before Christ. And at no time was I ever eager to learn or impressed with those I knew who called themselves “Christians” yet were out there playing with the things of the world. The world already mocks Christianity sadly; when we look and act and speak as the rest of the world does – we do a great disservice to Christ.

For those naysayers here or any who think I go too far I ask you to consider this:

We get a “cute” costume for our kids like spider man or a dinosaur or a pumpkin, , we buy lots of candy. All harmless right? While out trick or treating (the name isn’t a warning here is it?) your children are seeing other children dressed as witches, demons, and other grotesque stuff… What do you say to them? Think about it but please, don’t answer too quickly.  And consider this, your actions and your words are what are building a foundation regarding their thoughts on the occult. Yes you are like it or not.

If you say, “It’s Okay, harmless, it’s just for fun.” – Your child will remember that sometimes it is okay to copy things that are evil. They will lose that sense of what evil really is. If you say, “Just ignore them, they don’t know any better” – Your child learns not to care about the lost…they learn about excuses. Our children learn a lack of responsibility in this way too. “Woe to them who call good evil and evil good”  Whatever your response, it will only serve to dull their discernment in the future. What is really good? What is really evil? Is there really any such thing? The world is eager to see those who are followers of Christ lose their testimony and our testimony is a part of our power….What good is our freedom in Christ if we run right back to the world for “fun”?

Maybe you let them dress up as a zombie, paint fake blood on their face, ‘all in fun’. Maybe you let them read ‘Goosebumps” books and watch a couple scary movies ‘for fun’. Now ou find out perhaps they are playing with friends with tarot cards or a ouija board and some strange stuff is starting to happen. How do you respond to that? Divination, palm reading, horoscopes even channeling spirits and ghost hunting?

I could go on …. Regardless do you see the point here? You have been saying, its harmless and just for fun for a long time now…

Close your eyes and think about Halloween. What images come to mind? What or whom is it glorifying?
“Do not imitate what is evil.” 3 John 1:11
“I will set before my eyes no vile thing.” Psalm 101:3
“Who can bring what is pure from the impure? No one!” Job 14:4“

What are we showing our children? Like it or not what we do and say shows one way or the other. There is no in-between when it comes to good and evil – Do we really want to blur these lines with our children? Is it really worth the risk? Why don’t we teach them what the Bible has to say about witches and magic and darkness and psychics? We cannot tell them this is all dangerous and sin when we have taken part in these things, for fun, most of our lives. I am not condemning, I am not judging….I am not making this up either. I started out this way long long ago. And while it may happen to one and not another, these are dark days. We need to shine light; we need to be different. We are in the world but we are not to be of the world. I say this all in love….As food for thought.

We are called to be set apart; to be that light and light does not have fellowship with darkness. Now I am not condemning those who partake in these things unknowingly BUT for those who know hat the Scripture says and who are washed and anointed as His children, we need to be wise. We need to abstain from the appearance of evil. Of course we need to seek and reach out to those who are lost but if we cannot share truth, there is no real salvation to be had. If we are going to reach the lost out there it is not going to be by taking part in the things of their heart but by coming along side them an taking them out of all of that and sharing the glorious light that is Christ. Jesus only ate with sinners so that He could share the Gospel ~ Let me also say here, the act of partaking in things that are glorifying darkness and spirits….As one who spent far too many years doing just that, being darkness in every way, this is a dangerous game people play not even realizing. What we cannot see can hurt us in so many ways. Do people know if we’re really a Christian or not when we are daily “playing around” with the things of the world?

God calls us to be a beacon of light to those lost at sea (Matthew 5:15).

Do not mix the cups and partake of the two tables. Turn to Jesus. It is so very clear, it ALL matters!

“This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” 1 John 1:5-7
